A 20-year-old woman has been arrested following the incident in Tameside

A man has been seriously injured after being bitten by an XL bully dog in the street in Tameside.

Police say a 20-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of keeping a dog that is dangerously out of control. The attack took place on John Street, Droylsden just after 5pm today.

Police cordoned off the street while the dog was brought under control. It has been seized and remains with police.

Witnesses reported seeing a man with serious injuries to his arm. Police say there is ‘no wider risk’ to the public.

A GMP spokesperson said: “We’ve arrested a 20-year-old woman on suspicion of keeping a dog that is dangerously out of control shortly after 5pm today (Monday) after a man reported being bitten by a dog on John Street, Droylsden. The man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries, which are not thought to be life threatening, where he remains.

“The dog, which was an XL Bully, has been seized and remains with police. The scene has been stood down and enquiries are continuing.

“There is no wider risk to any members of the public.”
